ALMAT is a DBA of ALMATRADE which is dedicated to develop and sell equipment for the molten metal industry related to temperature measurement.

For years, pyrometers for immersion in molten metal using expendable thermocouples have been in use.

To this day, they show to be the cheapest and most convenient way to measure the temperature in molten metal for all conditions and processes.

These pyrometers have gotten updates through time as electronic technology has improved. They all show the temperature captured after a few seconds of immersion by at least three different methods:

Pre-defined time

Frozen display after a pre-defined time (usually 5 sec):
Uncertain and obsolete.

Peak detection

Peak temperature detection:
False readings and unstable.

Window detection

Window detection (usually +/-2°C for 2 sec). Most used.

Our debut product brings years of field experience and observation, whilst proposing an improved method of interpreting the measured temperature. Incorporating state of the art technology in electronic components that allows it to process temperature signals faster than any other in the market. Enabling fast accurate detection of the molten metal temperature and powered by software using a triple-check logic allied with the rapid and reduced PDT (Plateau Detection Time) we have created and proudly present:

What's the measurement time contribution?

There are at least two reasons for it:

Like a battery

Thermocouples have some similarities to a battery. When using a multiple immersion type thermocouple, as the number of immersions increases then the “power” of the thermocouple to generate the millivolt signal decreases, and the plateau detection time increases.

The Whole system

Composed of: the thermocouple, a connector body and connecting “compensated” cable delivering the signal to an A to D convertor. If an extended plateau detection time (PDT) occurs, there is an indication that some of the system components are not working efficiently.

Which are the benefits?

SPEEDtemP will help you to get quality readings!

When you are using a multiple immersion TC, the PDT can indicate the “health” of the thermocouple during its usage, and help you decide when it is time to dispose it. For example, a 1st dip has, in theory, a faster PDT, while a 5th, 7th, 10th will have a longer PDT. Today, a multiple immersion TC is disposed only when it is not working anymore. However, the problem is that you would never know if it is reading correctly before it fails.

SPEEDtemP will help your preventive maintenance!

If you are using a single immersion TC, a long PDT can tell you that it is time to replace the internal cable of the lance, the contact block, or the entire lance. Low electric insulation delays millivolt conduction from the thermocouple to the AD converter. And more: Due the fastest reading of SPEEDtemP, the immersion time is reduced saving the lance components and paper tube, allowing a single immersion TC works a couple time!

Furthermore, the SPEEDtemP was designed to bring  to the operator a confort and safe operation due to an ergonomic and handling design, allowing the user to take the measurement using only one hand and stay one step back from the heat source. Operational safety is present here too!

We have a pre-defined Quality Reading Status Bar based on the PDT. They may vary from metal and process type like steel to brass, iron to aluminum, induction furnace on or off, slag content, and other particularities. In general, they will be as seen:

* Representation of a measurement in a molten iron bath using type ‘R’ expendable thermocouple.
